Huron County Author Talk returns to the Museum on Saturday, October 3rd with a full day of panels, roundtable discussions, book fair, and informative presentations.
Are you a writer with a story to tell? A curious reader? Join us in the morning as we discuss all things writing, and in the afternoon to learn practical ways to succeed in the publishing world today.
Book Fair: Featuring works by local writers. Pick up a new favourite or start your holiday shopping for the readers on your list.
MORNING: Getting Started, 10:00-12:15
All parts of the event, including the Book Fair, Panels and Presentations, are all FREE. Pay-what-you-can donations to the Huron County Museum appreciated. You can donate via the donation box or tip/tap/pay machine in the lobby, or by cash or card at the front desk.
10-11 a.m. : Writing! Authors Panel — Let's talk about writing! Meet local authors Judy Keightley, Mark McCutcheon, Amy Ruttan, and Brad & Elisabeth Seltzer as they discuss writing. Topics will include how we get started writing, how we go about writing our first draft, how we edit, and more. Following the discussion there will be time for audience questions. Moderated by local author and librarian Hamilton Baker-Greaves.
11-11:15 a.m. : Coffee Break — Join us for coffee, tea, and delicious treats, browse the book fair, and keep the discussion going! Mingle with panelists and other attendees, and get your book fair purchases signed by the authors!
11:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m. : Roundtable Discussions — After the break, let's ALL talk about writing! Here's your chance to have a more informal discussion about some of the topics discussed during the panel and beyond. We'll break out into three groups (fiction, non-fiction, & poetry) to talk about writing specific to your literary genre. You choose which group based on where your interests lie. Each group will be led by our panelists, moderator, and/or other Huron County Authors members.
AFTERNOON: Mechanics, 1:30-4:00
1:30-2:30 p.m. : KDP Presentation — Learn how to utilize KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) to its full potential and kick your self-publishing journey into high gear. Presented by local authors Avery Greaves and Amy Ruttan.
2:30-2:45 p.m. : Coffee Break — Join us for coffee, tea, and delicious treats, browse the book fair, and keep the discussion going! Mingle with panelists, presenters, and other attendees, and get your book fair purchases signed by the authors!
2:45-3:45 p.m. : Marketing & Social Media Presentation — When you've finished your book, it's time to get it into the hands of readers. But how? Join us to equip yourself for success in the world of marketing and social media. Presented by local author Wendy Million.
3:45-4:00 p.m. : Winding Down — One last chance to mingle with panelists, presenters, and other attendees, and get your book fair purchases signed by the authors!
